Book: The Keeper of Lost Causes
Author: Jussi Adler-Olsen
Original title: Kvinden i buret
Translator: Lisa Hartford
Finished: December 2024
This book is the first in the Department Q series about Danish detective Carl Mørck. Carl is injured in a raid that kills one colleague and paralyzes another. His superiors at the Danish police have arranged to use newly allocated money to create a department that investigates cases of "special interest" and Mørck is put in charge. The mystery unfolds in parallel as Mørck decides which case to tackle first and the reader learns what is happening to the subject of that case.
I got into this book pretty quickly and had trouble putting it down even when I should have been packing for a trip! Here I am trying to write about it more than two months later and I don't remember a lot of details, but did enjoy the book and will probably continue with the series. I don't recall anything particularly Danish about the book, but I suppose some of the politics and police procedure give some insight into the Danish culture.
