... I decided to read a book by a native author from every country in the world.

The idea occurred to me while reading The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon. The city of Barcelona took on such a prominent role and I enjoyed trying to picture what I remembered of the city (from a short visit nearly 20 years ago) and match it up with the locales depicted so beautifully in the book. The book had such a strong sense of place that I was able to match up to my own experience.

I thought it would be rewarding to research and select books from authors in each country with an equally strong sense of place. Beyond armchair travel, it can be a window into other worlds and experiences.
